5 Ways to Keep the Energy Up During the Dark and Cold Winter months

We have all had it, New Years has gone, it’s the start of the year and to top it off it’s cold, dark and wet sometimes you can’t help but get the winter blues. It is not easy to keep the energy and productivity up.

“If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.”

–Anne Bradstreet

Today I would like to share five ways to make it easier to stay positive throughout this often dark and challenging season getting you ready for a productive summer.

1. Find what’s sucking your energy

The question you need to ask yourself is

“What am I spending the most energy on in my life right now?”

It may be a person in your life that is very negative or that thing that you have meant to finish for a month now is dragging you down.

Then you have to ask yourself a follow-up question:

What is one thing I can do to help resolve or do this?

Maybe you decide that you want to spend less of the time you have in a week on the problem that’s sucking your energy or maybe more of that time on it to try to resolve it.

For example, perhaps you can just set aside 15 minutes today to get started again with finishing your document

For some energy draining things, there might not be a simple solution. Or a solution at all, at least at this time.

Then you may want to find one of the lesser energy leaks in your life that you can do something about now.

Take a few minutes or an hour out of your day to plug just one of these most significant leaks, and you’ll have more energy to spend on what truly matters to you.

2. Be grateful for the small things

In the morning it can be a dark and rainy landscape, and it is easy to forget about the things I have.

Things I have:

* A roof over my head.

* A Family.

* Food on the table.

I have found that it helps my perspective to snap out of any kind of negative thinking.

3.Keep warm and allow for your time

For the past few winters, its got very cold and I would just feel so down and cold. Thus in recent winters, I’ve been making sure I keep warm and take some time to reflect on each day for myself, and I’ve found it gives me back a lot of the energy and momentum which I tend to lose during long winters.

4. Exercise.

I feel like this is an obvious one but still a very effective one.

Regular exercise will actually give you more energy. It will help you to release inner tensions, anxiety and stress which all drain energy.

And so it will be easier to stay relaxed, stay positive and to help think clearer and to act decisively.

5. Take action and move forward.

Very few things create more frustration and anxiety as sitting on your hands and doing nothing.

The most important thing is that you need to move forward. Even if it is by just taking one small step.

So even though it might be tough to get started or to keep going and to stay focused on your goals during this winter season. Just remind yourself that if you do replace those feelings and thoughts with optimism and self-confidence, it is a recipe for success.
